On Thursday 27th March, TailSpin presents a pulse-quickening, toe-tapping, imagination prickling evening of stories, rhythms and live music.
SPREADING THE FINGERS with Cat Gerrard and Belinda Sherlock
In November 2012 Cat Gerrard began a journey across America, by bicycle. She soon learned that 2767 miles is not just a journey on a map: it’s a journey into our own depths. Travelling across swamp and desert, stretched out and blown about by forces outside and in, she discovered how to stay still at full tilt. Join her and cyclist and percussionist Belinda Sherlock as they interclash and rhythmically mash storytelling and percussion, using only their voices, bodies and bicycles.
Cat Gerrard is a storyteller, puppeteer and director based in London. With a love of physicality and experiment, Cat blends traditional narrative with cross-arts forms, including percussion, shadow puppetry, juggling and even cycling. She is founder, Artistic Director and MC of TailSpin, found variously at The Miller, London Bridge; The Russet, Hackney Downs; and the Bargehouse, on the Southbank. Recent performing credits include: The Fantasist (Puppeteer/Josie, Theatre Témoin, UK and Ireland Tour); Body Without Soul (Storyteller, TailSpin).
Bel has been percussing since she was a wee lass with a cracked cymbal and a broken tambourine, making her public debut as The Little Drummer Boy. Much later on she trained at the Royal College of Music, played the triangle at the Proms (twice), and has now turned her hand to the mother of all instruments, the bicycle.
Plus music from THE BARKER BAND, a West London folk rock band anchored with a mean bluegrass banjo. With their love for George Jones, Ronnie James Dio and everything in between this band offer up a unique mix of bluegrass, rock and blues.
"Sounds like no one else" according to Q Magazine.
Plus short stories from Sarah Rundle and Nell Phoenix.
